Antonello Palombi

Tenor

Italian tenor Antonello Palombi performs around the world to tremendous acclaim.  In his American debut as Dick Johnson in La Fanciulla del West with Seattle Opera, the Seattle Times proclaimed, “The most pleasant surprise was the discovery of a very fine new tenor in Antonello Palombi, whose singing in rehearsals had set the rumor mills abuzz. It’s all true: Here is a tenor with that exciting, emotion-stirring, head-turning Italianate sound, and he ignited the show whenever he was on-stage…here’s betting he will be in considerable demand in this country.”

As predicted, he has since returned to the Seattle Opera as Calaf in Turandot, Foresto in Attila, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Radames in Aida, and Canio in I Pagliacci.  Additional US performances have included the title role in Otello at the Cincinnati Opera; Canio in I Pagliacci with the Dallas Opera and Michigan Opera Theatre; Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino with the former Baltimore Opera; Manrico in Il Trovatore with Opera Carolina; Cavaradossi in Tosca with Opera Colorado, Michigan Opera Theatre, Cincinnati Opera, New Orleans Opera and the former Baltimore Opera; and Radames in Aida with the Dallas Opera, Cincinnati Opera; Atlanta Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Palm Beach Opera, and the former Baltimore Opera; and Calaf in Turandot with Dallas Opera.

…one of today’s finest dramatic tenors…
Otello - “Palombi is without doubt one of today’s finest dramatic tenors. He made a complex, intensely human Otello, torn by love, jealousy and anger.”Music in Cincinnati
…lyricism and commitment …
Il Trovatore - “The title role on opening night was powerfully sung by Antonello Palombi, big in tone and in Italianate intensity, expectedly splendid in the rousing climax of “Di quella pira,” surprisingly acute in articulating the staccati throughout its first half…sang “Di quella pira” at score pitch with ringing interpolated high Cs.”– Opera News
…pure, booming and moving voice…
La Forza del Destino - “Palombi commands the stage as Don Alvaro in Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino,” opening the Baltimore Opera Company’s 57th season…Palombi’s pure, booming and moving voice combined with solid acting skills prove the opera isn’t a dusty art form and deserves to be revered by modern-day audiences.”The Baltimore Examiner
…enthralling…sounds like no one else…
Tosca - “As the painter Mario Cavaradossi, tenor Antonello Palombi was enthralling…The brilliant, spun-gold quality of his high notes seems to defy the sheer size and depth of his voice; he sounds like no one else…his “E lucevan le stelle” was heart-rending.”Washington Post
…exciting, emotion-stirring, head turning Italiante sound…
La Fanciulla del West- “Here is a tenor with that exciting, emotion-stirring, head-turning Italianate sound, and he ignited the show whenever he was onstage.  Sunday was Palombi’s U.S. debut; here’s betting he will be in considerable demand in this country.”Seattle Times
…wide dynamic variety…
Aida - “Throughout the evening, the tenor revealed a palpable connection to words and a keen appreciation for the contour and import of Verdi’s vocal lines. Although capable of summoning abundant, often quite electrifying volume, Palombi was most impressive, as in his previous visits, for the wide dynamic variety he produced.”Baltimore Sun
