Mezzo

Mezzo-Soprano Vanessa Cariddi made her professional operatic main stage debut at the Metropolitan Opera and subsequently performed Waltraute in Die Walküre on their tour to Japan.  She made her role debut as the title role in Carmen and New York City Opera and her debut with the Caramoor Festival singing the role of Gondì in Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan under the direction of Will Crutchfield.

In addition, she has graced the stages of The Pittsburgh Opera as Maddalena in Rigoletto and returned to the Caramoor Festival this past summer as Little Buttercup in HMS Pinafore and as Hedwige in Guillaume Tell. In the current season and beyond, Vanessa performs in concerts with the Sacramento Opera,  Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with El Paso Opera, and will cover the mezzo Valkyries in Seattle Opera’s summer 2013 production of the Ring Cycle.

Other roles in Vanessa’s current repertoire include Charlotte in Werther, Adalgisa in Norma, Cornelia in Giulio Cesare, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, and the title role in Samson et Dalila.

Other recent appearances have included Nico Muhly’s new opera, Dark Sisters with Gotham Chamber Opera and the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the mezzo soloist in the Verdi Requiem with the Choral Society of New York, the Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes, and several performances as a soloist with the Orquesta de la Ciudad de los Reyes, in Lima, Peru, and appearances at the Tanglewood Festival, including Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn in recital with Ben Binder, and works by Granados, Debussy, Berlioz, Shostakovich, Bernstein, Sibelius, Rossini, Barber, Golijov, Mahler, and John Williams.

Vanessa is a Gerda Lissner Foundation award winner, as well as a 2007 Kern Award winner for new artist of the year at Sarasota Opera. She also maintains an important relationship with Sing For Hope, which provides talent for fund-raising concerts with world-class artists for organizations as varied as homeless shelters, hospitals, schools, and other worthy local and international causes. A native of Maine, she is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, and New York University. She lives in New York City.
